ROAD CLOSURES, TRAFFIC DELAYS
KAHULUI, THROUGH KULA, TO HALEAKALA SUMMIT
The Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST) project will again transport extremely-wide loads to the observatory site on Haleakala summit.
Wednesday morning, Aug 2, 2017, a slow-moving convoy will transport extremely-wide loads (greater than 18 ft) from Kahului to the summit of Haleakala. Expect delays if following the convoy.
The route will go up the Pukalani by-pass to 5 trees intersection at King Kekaulike High School), turn left up Haleakala Hwy, turn left onto Crater Rd., through Haleakala National Park, and to the Haleakala High Altitude Observatories Site. It should pass through a portion of Kula’s residential areas during the night.
The Crater Rd and Haleakala National Park summit roads will be closed Tues evening (Aug 1st) and most of Wed (Aug 2nd), except to resident and business traffic on the lower portion of Crater Rd. Once the convoy safely reaches the summit, all roads will be reopened. Road precautions are in place due to the size of the loads and convoy and the narrowness of the roads. Public safety is of utmost importance and your cooperation is appreciated. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please travel safely.
