Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by President John Wilson at 6:55 p.m. in the Kula Community Center. He recognized community members who had helped plan and set up for the forum and thanked Akaku for the television coverage, Kwik Sign for the banner, and Grandma's Coffee House for the coffee. Approximately 150 people were present.

Program: Primary Elections Candidates Forum

John Wilson introduced Dick Mayer, program coordinator, who explained the program. All candidates for contested, local races were invited; candidates for statewide office and candidates in uncontested races were not invited; candidates for each office were asked to respond to four questions - three from the moderator and one from an opponent; and audience members could submit questions to be asked, time permitting. It was explained that all citizens could vote for council members from all districts, not just the council member from their "residency district". Following is a list of the invited candidates in the order introduced, with incumbents (*), absentees (abs), and parties (D, R) so indicated. Candidates in uncontested primary races were recognized and those present were introduced.
