Election Forum Minutes
October 19, 2000

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by President Elliott Krash at 6:30 p.m. in the Kula community Center.  She explained that copies of recent meeting minutes were available at the membership desk.  Audience members and television viewers were invited to visit the KCA website and join the association.  Mrs. Krash recognized Board Members who had helped plan and set-up the forum and thanked the audience, the media, and the candidates for their participation and support.  Special thanks went out to Dick Mayer for organizing the event.  Attendance during the evening ranged from 55 to 80 people.

Program:  General Election Forum

Elliott Krash introduced moderators Dick Mayer, Karolyn Mossman, Verna Nahulu, and Hari Ajmani and timekeepers John McDonald and Mitch Silver.  Dick Mayer explained the program.  All candidates for County Council, State House of Representatives, State Senate, and Board of Education were invited to participate.  Candidates for each office were asked to respond to three or four questions from the moderator.  Audience members could submit questions to be asked.  Council races this year are non-partisan.  All citizens vote for council members, not just the member from their 'residency district".  Following is a list of invited candidates, with incumbents (*), absentees (abs), and parties (D, R, G [Green], A [Aloha Aina]) so indicated.
