Primary Election Forum Minutes

 24 August 2000

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by President Eliott Krash at 6:30 p.m. in the Kula Community Center.  She explained that in the interest of time the Secretary's and Treasurer's reports were dispensed with and copies of the minutes of the May General Meeting were available. Audience members and television viewers were invited to visit the KCA web site and join the association.  She recognized Board Members who had helped plan and set up the forum and thanked the audience, the media, and the candidates for their participation and support.  Attendance during the evening ranged from 60 to 80 people.

Program:  Primary Election Forum

Elliott Krash introduced moderators Karolyn Mossman, Verna Nahulu, and John Wilson, and program coordinator/moderator, Dick Mayer, who explained the program.  All candidates for contested races were invited; candidates in uncontested races were not invited.  Candidates for each office were asked to respond to three or four questions from the moderator and audience members could submit questions to be asked, time permitting.  Council races this year are non-partisan.  All citizens vote for council members from all districts, not just the council member from their "residency district".  Following is a list of the invited candidates, with incumbents (*), absentees (abs), and parties (D, R) so indicated. Legislators not running in this election and candidates in uncontested primary races who were present were introduced.
