Department of Planning, County of Maui

Dear Mr. Min:
Subject: Enforcement of Sign Ordinance in Kula
The Kula Community Association has received an increasing number of complaints over the past year with regard to illegal and/or inapppropriate signs in the Kula region. The concerns raised by residents include the proliferation of new signs as well as existing signs and banners which do not comply with existing laws or guidlines for our upcountry area.
Clearly, the members of our community are sensitive to the negative effects that such illegal and inappropriate signs have on the rural atmosphere, views, and agricultural character of Kula. We ask that you recognize the concerns of our community and place a higher priority on the enforcement of Maui's sign law and guidelines as they apply in rural upcountry.
Owners of illegal and inappropriate signs, banners, etc. need to understand not only how to comply, but also why it is in their best interest to comply, so that the Kula region will continue to maintain its rural residential atmosphere.
If you have any questions about the comments we have received, please call me at 878-1342 or Gina Flammer, our secretary and signage subcommitte member, at 876-6284.
Sincerely,
Elliott Krash, Kula Community Association President
Gina Flammer, Member, Kula Community Association Signage Subcommittee (for Hari Ajmani, Chair)
