KCA Suggested Changes

Early in 1998 the County Council will be discussing and taking action on an agricultural zoning bill which will affect all of us in Kula directly or indirectly. The goal of the bill is to promote agriculture and preserve "open spaces necessary for the general health and well being of the citizens of Maui County". Proposals under consideration include: comprehensive zoning of all ag lands; restrictions on sizes of homes and other structures; limits on subdividing and resubdividing; definitions of agricultural activities; and permitted uses of ag land.

Following is a KCA position statement adopted by the KCA Board on January 8, 1998. Also (posted on this site) are copies of: the 14 July 1997 draft Agricultural Zoning bill and ordinance; a 31 October 1997 memo from Sol Kaho'ohalahala with suggested amendments; and an update from KCA Board Member Brian Jenkins with clarifications on several issues. Additional information is in the minutes of the 4 December 1997 KCA Board Meeting (posted on the KCA web site).
