Recent KCA Accomplishments

What the KCA has done recently to help improve our  community
  • Supported expansion of the Kula Agricultural Park. Council approved funding in November 2015 and this is now in the property acquisition phase.
  • Lobbied for over 15 years for Hansen Road improvements.  These are now being completed.
  • Worked hard for sidewalks to King Kekaulike High School along Kula Hwy and Old Haleakala Hwy.  These are now being completed.
  • Testified on the 2015 County Budget Priorities for Kula and the Upcountry region.
  • Evaluated proposed Water Rate and Agriculture Property Tax changes.
  • Lobbied the County’s Department of Transportation to extend the Maui Bus service through Kula.
  • Moderated a Primary Election forum for Mayor and Council races on Akaku-TV.
  • Proposals to connect Maui energy sources (wind, solar + geothermal) to Oahu via an undersea cable. 
  • Working with the Council’s Ag Working Group on Ag issues, including the definition of AG.
  • Continued efforts to highlight the importance of preventing and eradicating Invasive Species.
  • Worked with both Verizon and AT&T on their plans for new cell towers in Kula.
  • KCA urged the County to negotiate with Maui Credit Union to purchase the Kula Gym property.
  • Publicized Kula Elementary School’s 50th anniversary luau celebration on September 6, 2014.
  • KCA board attended a Hale Mahaolu Senior affordable-housing site visit in Kulamalu near Long’s.
  • Hosted discussions on “Upcountry Sustainability”: local foods, resource management, waste reduction.
  • Shared with the Council our disappointment that the proposed Bike Tour ordinance has yet to be approved. It is a matter of safety for both residents and visitors.

Our Vision
The vision of the Kula community Association is to preserve open space, support agriculture, maintain a rural residential atmosphere, and to work together as a community. The specific purpose of this association is to improve the quality of life for the residents of Kula, to promote civic welfare and generally to benefit the community of Kula.
