KCA's County Budget Priorities 2015-2016

Kula Community Association past and future activities.

What the KCA has done recently to help improve our  community?
- Testified on the 2015 County Budget Priorities for Kula and the Upcountry region.
- Evaluated proposed Water Rate and Agriculture Property Tax changes.
- Lobbied the County’s Department of Transportation to extend the Maui Bus service through Kula.
- Moderated a Primary Election forum for Mayor and Council races on Akaku-TV.
- Proposals to connect Maui energy sources (wind, solar + geothermal) to Oahu via an undersea cable.
- Working with the Council’s Ag Working Group on Ag issues, including the definition of AG.
- Continued efforts to highlight the importance of preventing and eradicating Invasive Species.

- Worked with both Verizon and AT&T on their plans for new cell towers in Kula.
- KCA urged the County to negotiate with Maui Credit Union to purchase the Kula Gym property.

- Publicized Kula Elementary School’s 50th anniversary luau celebration on September 6, 2014.
- KCA board attended a Hale Mahaolu Senior affordable-housing site visit in Kulamalu near Long’s.
- Hosted discussions on “Upcountry Sustainability”: local foods, resource management, waste reduction.
- Shared with the Council our disappointment that the proposed Bike Tour ordinance has yet
to be approved. It is a matter of safety for both residents and visitors.
     ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 2015  the Kula Community Association will be following these and other  issues:

-   Further extension of the new Maui bus route through Kula.
-  Kula Hospital’s proposed public private partnership and changes at Kula Hospital and Maui Memorial.
-  Represent Kula's interest in the county budget negotiations: road improvements, water meters,
community
police officer, Kula bus route, sidewalks, bike safety, and Hansen Road improvements.
-  Water source development plans by the Water Supply Department.
-  Represent Kula when new developments are considered by the County and State.
- KCA supports the County purchase of Kula Gym and land beneath the Kula Community Center.
